Job descripton

The biggest change this year is that, in the city, we’re splitting the responsibilities of guarding and rentals. All guards in the city will be LGOs. County will still have dual role positions available. There is also a beach attendant position (just rentals with first AID/CPR certification). Right now, the pay is at $12,5 – $17 but that could change. Both guard positions are still required to have the American Red Cross certification and pass the swim test.

Limit 500m/10min: If pools don’t open and no one can send swim videos before the summer season, we’ll need some kind of log of exercise (running, biking, etc.) to show us that you’re not just sitting on the couch all day. The swim is important and you have to be in a good shape.

All lifeguards must attend weekly in-service training called a surf school – Tuesday (SSBS, CBS), Wednesday (LBS), Thursday (NBS, MARRIOTT and potential Gene’s Beach Service at 77th Ave N). Lifeguards will practice all kind of different scenarios of ocean rescue techniques.

All rookie guards also must attend Rookie school which is going to be after working hours at the beginning of summer (June), rookie school will last 3-4 days approximately 3 hours/day (5.30pm-8.30pm) after working hours and lifeguards are not going to be paid for in-service training.

Wage and housing

Guards: $17/hr (could change), beach attendants: $12.50/hr + 5% commission

Guaranteed hours:
Guards: Monday-Sunday 9am-6pm
Beach attendants: Monday- Sunday 8am-5pm

Generally, lifeguards are assigned to a certain location on the beach, and will work there throughout the season. On duty hours, required by the City of Myrtle Beach, are 8am- 5pm, seven days a week.

Uniform: We give one uniform for free – shirt, shorts, whistle and fanny pack. But all the extras are low priced and we have tons of fun clothes to choose from!

Employer offers temporary and permanent housing for lifeguards. Typically the price of the housing will be $125 dollars per week.
A $200 dollars security deposit is required at the time of arrival and will be given back to you as long as housing contracts were not violated. The number of residents in each house varies from 8 to 12 people with 2 to 4 people per room (beds, linens, furniture, basic kitchen appliances, wifi).

Transport and location

How to get to work? Beach Service Vans

Housing is located within 3-5 miles to job site, usually 10-20 min ride.

The only change here is the vans will only pick up/drop off from guard house locations. If participants find their own housing, they must either find their own ride to work or get themselves to a guard house, as if it were a bus stop.

How to get there? ✈ Participants should try to arrive in Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) in the morning and provide the employer with detailed info about their arrival flight.

Pick-up at the airport: Provided from 8am to 6pm
